Basket Weave Box

Several weeks ago I completed a knock down bottle jack veneer press and a parquetry guillotine.

So I decided to put them to use and make a couple more basket weave boxes. The boxes are made from cherry and walnut veneers over a 1/2” plywood core. They are trimmed along the edges with cherry and walnut strips.

The basket weave is made from cherry and black veneer with a black border.

The interior of the lids and bottoms are veneered with other light coloured veneers that were included in my “pizza box of veneers” from Lee Valley.

Both include a small interior tray.

Each box measures 10 3/4” x 8” x 5”. They are finished with a shellac, rubbed down and then waxed.

Very cool. Looks complicated to do. Great work!
