a couple manhattan pens made from some cherry gall given to me from a good friend on that other forum. finish is a friction polish.

Those are nice Pottzy! I still haven’t come around to fat pens. I know you guys don’t like slim-lines all that much but the big cigar style ones just look chunky to me. I spun up an acrylic blank the other day with Kelley’s carbide tools, and it’s pretty, but it just fees thick in my hand.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

the manhattans arent as big as cigar pens but are hefty. ive done slim lines many times, especially if your making pens for ladies. i think many prefer the bigger pens as more wood shown. ill be moving more of my projects here. i dont save my pic's so i tried just going on lj's and clicking on the pic's from my projects and hitting save to picture.from there i just loaded here.worked easy. but better than having to re shoot projects all over again.and many i no longer have in my possession.

also i didn't mention but the pens are on a piece of the gall. it's a sort of growth that wraps around the trees limbs.

Cool pens pottzy... run out of bowl space?

I still feel that the cigar is my favourite goto bloke pens and the Sierra Elegant Beauty for the ladies.  They both have inherrent larger dimensions, however, they don't need to be distorted... a slight bulge to break up the straight lines is enough if you prefer smaller pushed pens.

I steer away from slimlines as I've found that most turners, not all but far too many to call them most, of slimline pens make them bigger and more bulbous than an oversized beefed up sledge hammer...

Sorry MsD' and pottzy, cherry's nice... in a chocolate bar...
Keeping in line with chocolate, black palm is my favourite

and I make at least one of all my new pen styles out of it... that way potential buyers only need to concentrate on the pen rather than the blank...
There was a time when I tried to buy the entire stock in Yankeeland,

when I was setting up my pen empire... that's why they're so expensive now.
Unfortunately the yokels in downtown Churchill are just learning to climb palm trees and a long way from mastering writing with them.

BTW: Mokey, I think the name of "blank" was derived from the faces of people that saw their first acrylic pen.

Yep.  And Big John, too.  Adios amigos.

Nice pens Pottz,  I have never been into them though. They just don't do much for me I guess.
CocoBolo would have to be my go to for one though.

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.

Yeah, I'm not a turner.  I admire good work, but it just doesn't draw me in.

I'm sure if I made a few I would get the fever.
Kind of like golf.  If I started golfing then that's all I would spend my money on.

Turning is definitely addictive. Seems like there’s always something new to learn with it!
