Project Information
this has been one of the most challenging and time consuming projects ive made,a g&g inspired wall table made from solid mahogany 17"x 60" x 33" high.i have always wanted to do some g&g so after visiting the gamble house in Pasadena on a tour led my master woodworker jim ipekjian, who recreated all the furniture for the blacker house I had my inspiration to get started.this piece is a combination of various g&g elements some I took from Darrell pearts books, and the bulk from actual pieces from the gamble house.i used a jig from ing woodworking in Anaheim ca.to make the stepped ebony spline on the top, which saved a huge amount of time.all construction is mortise and tenon using a domino 500.the drawers are solid mahogany with a wood runner on the bottom.the handles are from Darrell.all square plugs are ebony.the finish on this is 5 coats of penofin interior grade oil.comments and suggestions are very welcome especially if your checking this out Darrell.

Welcome aboard. It takes a while but you can eventually transfer just about all if you choose to.

Beautiful Pottzy

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Where did you hide all this talent? Beautiful work. Great attention to detail from top to bottom, inside and out.
That's nice,  who did you say you had build it for you?
LOL....

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.

thanks guys really appreciate that. damn bently you called me out.i had this really talented guy from lj's do it for me.cant say his name though,he's kinda private. (wink).

damn the only thing i miss here is the "points"  ! what the hell are they for anyway ? ego boosters i guess ?

That's more of a work of art than furniture. I really like the color it turned out, and the detail is second to none. Excellent job !!!   Mike
Oh wow!!!
That is gorgeous.

And it reminds me of the Table Challenge that we held years ago.

I’m not Derrell but I did check it out and I like what I see.

Did you ever take a class from Ng?  I was thinking about taking one sense I live about 12 miles from his workshop.

I’d like to build the Blacker House chair.

James McIntyre

thanks james. no ive never taken any of his classes but id sure like to. when i was going to the covid hit and killed that. have you ever visited the gamble house ? if not plan to do it. thats what inspired me to do the table. G&G looks simple but it's a lot of work. but a lot of fun to build.

No. I haven’t visited it yet but I plan to, but I did buy Derrell’s book.

I know it’s not an easy build. How many ebony plugs including the inlays did you put into it?

My fingers get sore looking at it. 😂

James McIntyre

when you go do the (joinery and details) tour which is led by jim ipekjian a master at g&g furniture. he did all the reproduction furniture for the blacker house. it's about  a 3 hour tour (no gilligan jokes) and he goes into immense detail. he only does several a year so ya gotta plan for it. i did it again last year.
oh i dont even wanna think about ebony plugs, it was a lot. i used charles ng's jig for making the ebony splines on the corners of the top.

I’m not a Gambler but I’ll go to look around.

All kidding aside I will take you up on the joinery  and detail tour by Jim I.

James McIntyre

heres a little clip of jim doing some inlay.

I can only dream of being such as fine of craftsman Pottz.  That is some fine woodworking right there!
Flat out gorgeous Pottz! If I’d made that, I’d build a new “hall to nowhere” off the side of my house just so I’d have a place to put it. ; )

If I didn’t laugh at myself, I’d lose my mind.

rick- dont under estimate yourself, im not the hall brothers but i did it.

rcc-thanks buddy.
