Trestle table Ipe

 

Made this Trestle table for our new home. I will sit outside on the Lani under cover from the Fl sun.

We have 3 close couples' friends, and we play cards a lot. So the table will seat 10 , but made for 4 on each side facing each other for cards and drinking. Boys v. Girls.

It measures 10' 1" long, 37" wide. It can be knocked down.

It is made of Ipe. (Maple accents) Kind of a Wood Whisperer inspired table. The Ipe oil gives it a deep brown rich look.  I finished the top with GF satin, so it is pretty durable.

I used breadboard ends and some undermount boards to keep it flat. These allow for wood movement.

I used brass threaded inserts from Woodcraft (I think) with stainless bolts holding the top to the legs.

The stretcher is mortised into the legs, with wedges to pull it tight to the shoulders, there is a gentile curve in the stretcher which I think gives it an Asian look that you don't see in the photos.

I purchased the wood from Advantage Lumber, good price but I had to take what they sent.

Very pleased with the way it came out.

It took 5 of us to move it inside. It is a beast.
