A Lora Irish pattern. I grabbed a piece of live edge wood for this one. It wasn't until I started in on it that I realized that it was birch, not basswood, though the package did say basswood. Birch isn't easy to carve, compared to basswood, so I didn't go too deeply into the wood. It does make for crisp edges, though. This is one of my earliest, made about 6 years ago. The dark streak is the grain, it's not a split. No finish. 12" X 9".

Looks good DK,
Carving to me is like marquetry,  it's another whole art to learn,
I'm sure you have been doing it for years by the looks of it.
Well done.

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.

Thanks! I've been hacking wood for decades!

I imagine that curved/rolling leaf is not as easy to do as it looks.

No Bees. No Honey. Bees Lives Matter

I'd have to agree, especially since I was only carving for a matter of months when I did this. Progress was quite slow, to say the least.
