Yew Jack Plane
Yew Jack Plane, with a pink ivory strike point.
Hand tools only, chiselling out the escapement and fitting the wedge were a bit finicky.
Since building it, turns out that I was right and yew wasn't a great choice for a plane, so it's been re-soled in oak.
And I've since got a couple of Iwasaki carving floats and a normal float to make the next one easier.

nice looking plane mike. nothing like a hand made tool that works well.
working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment,somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Very nice work on this, this plane looks great. Does work as nice as it looks? What made you decide to re-sole it, abnormal wear?

It works as nice as it looks on nice straight grain, but I made the wedge angle a bit too steep to allow for the flex you get in Yew, so hit a knot or some figure and the wedge shocks itself a little loose.
Re-soled because the Yew was taking a bit of a beating, a bit too soft for the abuse I was giving it.
All in all - I'm calling it a learning experience for the next one 😁
