Hickory TV Table for Washington House

This table was built in April 2021 and was originally posted on LJ.  I used a hollow chisel bench top mortising machine to make the mortises.

Project Information
The planning for a new TV table to replace the existing particle board with silver spray paint started about 2 years ago. Drawings were worked on but not completed. DW and I knew we wanted to use hickory as our remodel and addition in 2001 has hickory cabinets and flooring.

About 15 years ago I had a hickory entertainment center built for my widescreen TV, but the table to sit the TV on would add $400 to $500 more and we decided we would buy a cheaper alternative and wait until a future time.

The Thumbnail photo shows the original entertainment center with our new table. My contribution is only the table that the TV sits on.

The table is constructed utilizing hickory plywood, solid hickory for legs and aprons. Joinery is mortise and tenon for legs to aprons. The top and lower levels are fastened with Z-style table top clips.

It currently has 3 coats of MW Wipe on Poly on visible surfaces and 2 on bottom faces.

The plan is to do one additional coat on all surfaces after the annual family trip to central Oregon which starts in a couple of days.

It was fitted up and glued on the granite counter top in the kitchen. Only truly flat surface in our house.

Very nice design Dave. Have to agree the kitchen would not fair well in my house.

I do have a healthy respect (should I say fear?) of wifey.  But I was careful as heck.
I need a torsion box assembly table like Pottz made that is absolutely flat.

Well constructed Dave. My wife wouldn’t care if I built it in our bedroom as long she wasn’t sleeping. Hope you get over your F.O.W.S.

Not sure what Potts’s swmbo is.

My wife wouldn’t care if I built it in our bedroom as long as she wasn’t sleeping. Lol

LMAO!   A good health respect (fear ) for the 'wifey' is a good thing, as long as she loves and takes good care of her man, it all works out in the end.  Love the cartoon.

That's one LARGE project. Well executed.  Makes me pleased that we don't have the wall space, so I don't have to even contemplate make something similar.
