Flower Vase - Dead or Alive

Had not used the lathe for a while and got bored yesterday afternoon. I had a piece of Eastern Red Cedar approx. 6/7 inch thick, 5 foot long that was 4 or 5 years old, so I cut a chunk off and proceeded to get with it. When I started, I didn't know it had all those darn knots all over and in it. Made it a bear to turn but it came out a lot better than I thought it would. It is 7 inches tall by 4 inches wide. I drilled a hole in the middle with the lathe so it could be used for dry ( dead ), flowers or put in a tube ( for water ), for live flowers. It was sanded to 600, then Triple EEE and was topped off with a good wax. My shop now smells like a Cedar chest.

Nice vase, Looks good.
Love the smell of cedar in the morning,
or any time really...

Figuring out how to do something you have never done is what makes a good challenge.

Good looking vase, Mike. Looks a lot like the Rocky Mountain juniper I can sometimes get around here.

May you have the day you deserve!

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice work to compliment a boring day. Having that cedar smell float through the shop only makes it better. Nice job.
