I saw pictures of a place in Indonesia, and the images just got stuck in my head. I thought about building it for a while and thought it was beyond my abilities. A year or so later I sat down with some pictures, a ruler, calipers and dividers and started drawing each ring, setting the proportions and dimensions, and the number of segments per ring. Still, I was sure it would fail if I attempted.

A while later I built a wedgie sled and bought some templates and soon I was thinking about this again.

I surprised myself with how well it went. One thing I did was to get each ring to final size before assembly. This has helped me in other projects.

Looking at the pictures of Borobudur I saw many colors of stone. From almost white to almost black, with blue, brown, red and gray.

7" wide  x 7"  tall. 243 pieces, closed and open segmenting. Rings of 48,32,24,16 and 12 segments.

Another from that other place.

That came out great, Hairy.  Just like the real thing.  And so miniature, didnt realize that at first glance.

Stupa-pendus!

Never seen or heard of that, Smoker for Buddhas?
Does it have a finish or will it?

First glance said "lamp shade", that'll be a neat centerpiece and looks great!

Nice assembly, I can see how you'd want to shape things before assembly, that many stacks would be difficult to align otherwise.

I use Mohawk Dead Flat lacquer spray. It's just about my go to finish.
If I only do 2 - 3 coats it will look like bare wood.

That is nice Hairy, you managed to turn a great piece. Lot of segments in that little turning. Well Done.

Looks great but this reminded me of bad water destroyed my stomach when I traveled to Indonesia, haha. Only one time I used a tap water to brush my teeth and it got me...
