this is a wine bar i made about 17 years ago. wood is paduak with black melamine. backing plates on the handles is wenge. sadlt the padauk has darkened and turned brown. it was beautiful when first done. led lighting on the top cabinet and under side. top is slate tiles. soft close euro hinges and ball bearing drawer glides. finish is maloof oil blend. i had this posted on lj's but didn't transfer until i took some new ones.

Pottz,

That is well done.  I agree on the learning curve with woods "oxidizing".  But we both know about Cherry and what happens to it.  The other exotics, I have to learn the hard way. Is there any finish that would protect the newly sanded color?  Maybe a good forum topic?

I like what you built.  Nice job

Fancy looking bar pottz.
I don't know how to break this to you, but some animal has put wine in your beer fridge.
petey-i think there are some finishes that will slow the process but none i know of that will prevent it.
mike-yeah i didn't pay attention and thats what happens 😂
moke-thanks bud.

Your a fine cabinet builder. The darker wood looks good to me. Wine in a box? Yummy.  Got any two buck Chuck? If so count me in.

James McIntyre

thanks james. yeah chardonnay, 95% of what the wife drinks. for everyday it's not bad. 2 buck aint 2 bucks no more. havn't had that in years. people made fun of it but he bought his grapes from some of the most famous high end wineries there is. he won lots of gold medals, pissed the high end guys off.

That is a beaut Pottz!
More of your top work hiding away, can't wait to see what you put out after you retire and get some bonus shop time!

As the protectionists goons might say, "it'd be a shame of all that beautiful wine happened to fall onto the floor if there was a quake..."
thanks splint. hey you say that about a quake. after the northridge i went to a wine shop very close to the epicenter and the owner told me when he came to the store the next day there was a line of people trying to use the only pay phone that was still working. someone said, is that your store. he said yeah. they said you might wanna just go home. he said wine was running out the door. there was a red stain 2" high on the walls., he said thats how much wine broke and filled this place. he said he filled a dumpster with broken bottles, thousands of em. i almost cried myself !!!!!

Pretty good looking.    Like the design and how it all works together.   Well done.

Ron

I can't imagine the pain of losing your business and inventory that way, t'would suck. I get the same feeling as you when I see a nice classic muscle car smashed up.

Wouldn't surprise me if people started showing up with their paper straws however 🙂
That's the real deal, looks great

I have not been woodworking long enough to know padauk turns brown. Although that is a shame, it still looks great.

On another note, you can transfer projects from LJ to here? Or are you just posting them here as if they are new projects?
splint- hell i would have shown up with a pump and buckets 😂
rivers- thank you, where you been lately ?
goat toys-yeah if you saw it when the padauk was new youd really say-wow. it is still good though. yeah transfer all your stuff over thats what i did. i wanted to get the hell off lj's completely ! this project was posted on lj's but the pic's sucked so i redid em. ive got a few more im gonna re shoot also.

Nicely done Pottz, with lots of storage there, the blocks behind the pulls looks nice.

I think it would look better with a mixture of Bourbon, just saying.

Main Street to the Mountains

I did see the Buffalo Trace

Even with the padauk color change, that’s a handsome cabinet, and I’ll wager it stores wine as well as it did 17 years ago.  Great work.
eric, good eye !
ross- thanks man. and yes it does. i do have some thats a tad better than the black box 😎
