Gate One of Four

We have a wrap around deck. It's about 4' off the ground on the east side, and 8' on the other sides. Years in, we adopted an Anatolian mix. His freedom was limited to the house and the wrap around deck, after I added temporary gates using some display screens I acquired by way of a yard sale.

While walking the pup, another dog introduced himself (a brindle Mastif mix). Kinda permanently.  He stunk of orchard spray. The bad kind, so I bathed him, for fear it could do him permanent harm, if I didn't.

We ran ads, but it looks like he chose us.

With two good sized pups, it became obvious they needed a little romp room, so I built them a romp area. The part over an existing concrete wall is cedar in stirrups (I drilled the cement and added them).  The rest is cyclone fence.

I built the stairs down to it, so they are the kings of the neighborhood. They can bark the rat dogs down the street into [pretend] submission, or roll in the dirt, so we'll have something worthwhile to vacuum.

I'm upgrading the gates to something more friendly to our use.  I cut the inside handles down to about half their length, then sanded and polished them.  The 2x's are compliments of a stick built going in next door. The tubes were given to me by a friend, once he got done with his deck railing.

The pipes were a bit too short, so I turned some wood into dowels that just fit inside (about 5" each tube) to join two tubes, then grabbed some conduit and peened the ends over so they fit tight on the pipes. The combo should make for some pretty stout longer pipes.

This is the end result for the first one.

Vert nice gate, job well done Kelly.

Nicely done!  Always rewarding to build a solid "dog project" and I'm sure they appreciate it.  More dog pictures please...
