Shadow Box Clock

This live edge shadow box clock I titled “Random Heat” because of the copper backdrop. The copper was heat treated at random intervals, in random places across the field, and at random temperatures to produce the crazy colors in the metal. Each temperature and amount of time under the heat produces different shades of oranges, yellows, and purples.

It is framed with white oak that has been treated with a Shou Sugi ban finish. The live edge wood that houses the clock is Spalted Silver Leaf Maple.

The pendulum swings separately from the clock body, adding some whimsical motion to the piece.

Cool piece of artwork Brian.

Main Street to the Mountains

That’s a very attractive clock, with a nice blend of materials it’s rustic and modern at the same time.

Can you elaborate on your pendulum comment? Does the pendulum swing across that round opening at the bottom left? Is it positioned behind the copper plate?
Nicely done! Cool design.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks guys

@pottz the size is 45wide, 28 deep, and 31" high

@Awsum55 No stabilization

@Ron Stewart The pendulum motor is mounted in the back of the lower  burl in a shallow recess

Does anyone know if it is possible to reply directly to someone's comment?

Nice art piece!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Brian. I don't think you can reply to their comment. I tried clicking on them and nothing  happens. You would have to go their home page and leave a message. I have done that a  few times.

Nice artwork Brian!

Being a clock is secondary, just adds some motion to a project that can hang anywhere on it's own.

Nice art piece!!!!!!!!!!

Is your pendulum just another clock motor w/o the hands?
A clock par excellence.  Really fantastic combo of contrasting elements, technique.

No Bees. No Honey. Bees Lives Matter

Very unique. I think it’s awesome!!!

Thanks, Brian. Too bad you didn't post (or take) any construction photos to show how it's pieced together.
That's a beautiful piece. And a clever idea to mount the pendulum in one piece and the clock in another.
Wow! That’s a beautiful piece of art. The design is fabulous, and as others have said, the pendulum offset is really clever.
Looks great, nice use of materials
