Dart Bodies

In keeping with my motto  that "you appreciated something better if you make it yourself".. I did some experimenting with making dart bodies for our plastic tipped darts we play at home and in the park in Arizona. The first set are rosewood with brass inserts. The second and third are Corian darts with 10-32 threads cut right into the material. The Corian darts are lighter than standard brass darts but they throw pretty good.
They are  all finished with EEE and Shellawax.
After using them for a while, I find the Rosewood bodies are just right and the corian are too light.

Very cool!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Beauties! Takes effort to get them all the same.

Wondering if you ever tried Saguaro needles for tips and mesquite bodies? It is AZ!
As I was reading I guessed that the Corian would be too light. Maybe a tungsten insert would weight them nicely.

Good looking darts!

May you have the day you deserve!

some of the nicest darts ive ever seen.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Great darts Jim, I bet they would be a fun quick project. Well done. I have seen the kits somewhere.

Nice turnings, match each other very well.
Nice work Jim. Not an easy task to do. They may be small but not simple
Thank you for all the nice comments.

hi Bruce. I have never tried anything but the tips with the 10-32 threads on them. If a saguaro needle hit one of those electronic boards, it may go through like a steel tip. They are tough and dead sharp.

Hi Dave. The rosewood ones have brass on both ends that adds to the weight. I did not use it with the corian because I could put good threads in that material but not so in the wood

This takes me back to playing darts in the garage with Dad. Darts themselves were magical to me -- everything about them. I never conceived that one could make their own. This caught my eye and took me back 3 decades to simpler times. Thank you for that and excellent craftsmanship -- I think they need metal tips, but that's just me.
Thanks Devin. They are easy to make and they have a 10-32 thread on each end for the tip and the fletching! I don't know if a steel tip has that thread as they they never need to be replaced like the plastic ones do.
