Pocket Toppers (bottle openers)

A quick little project using up some scraps. Our gallery space is getting a little sparse but I haven’t had a lot of shop time other than home remodels.
Bottle openers- walnut, maple
Sketched and cut out a template, laid out and drilled holes at center of cap clearance and washer diameters. Installed a finish nail in the holes, protruding out about 1/4”.

Traced and bandsaw cut some blanks. “Nailed” template to blanks and ran across the router table to final shape. The marks left in the blanks by the nails serve as alignment for the 2 different forstner bits. ( cap clearance and washer) . Pilot drill for flat head screw and drill for magnet.

Drill hole for rawhide ….

Back to the router table to radius both sides.

Graphics laser engraved.

Finished with rattle can lacquer and a couple coats of wax.

Add rawhide

Testing these in the gallery to see how they sell, before making a bunch for the big music festival.

nice little openers and good use of small scraps that most would throw out. a great extra for the beer/bbq swap too ?

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Those are awesome!! And they would be an excellent bonus item for the beer swap…

Pottz, simple little use of scraps. With a bit of dressing up they could be. Little proof of concept… success.. they opened my beer and I didn’t have to bend over to pick up the cap.
Thanks Tony. If you could see my shop, there’s plenty of small pieces, or “raw material”!
like the design, well done.    Have to give it a try.    Thanks for the post.

Splint, pretty simple to do in mass. There’s a large music festival in the fall. The street gets shut off and since we are within the enclosure, a lot of folks looking for a $20 memento.
Nice Dan, a quick project for sure. I have been doing some quick little ones to use up some the drops around the shop.

Main Street to the Mountains

Cool! They should be quite popular. Maybe engrave the festival logo on them?
