Maverick Toy Truck

My little buddy next door, is now 14 months.....and was in need of a new toy.  I chose cherry, originally was going to paint it, but it seemed a shame to do that.  I have a new neighbor in the last year right across the street, and he has a nice laser and made me the license plates...I make him stuff with my tools he doesn't have and he is making me some stuff with his laser until I get one.
This is just Cherry with Antique oil.  I have a friend that swears by Antique oil, but it doesn't seem very easy to get even, so the Jury is still out.
It only took me an afternoon to fabricate and a weekend to allow for coats and drying time.....After I gave it to him, he got right down on the floor and started driving.....the reward was in his face when he saw it.

The thing better than making a fun toy is watching the child playing with it.
Fantastic Mike, A great playable wooden toy truck 👍

Next you'll be making cars that the kids can drive,

Gotta ask, can the neigbour's laser cut?  If it can't... get a new neighbour... only reason I'm let live in my street.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

so when are you getting your laser and what kind ? ? LOL

i love this playable toy you have a good heart GR8 JOB 😍😎👍

Nicely done and even better when you put a smile on a child's face. The trade off with the laser is great.

Making things for others has great rewards, not monetary but smiles, hugs, and thank yous      Nicely done Mike.    A true craftsman in all senses.

Cool Mike!

Big plus is it looks "foot friendly" for those barefoot midnight fridge raids 😬
Thanks all,  It was satisfying.  Yesterday one of his 10 yo sisters gave me a hug and thanked me for making that for him.  Made this old man happy.  thanks all for the nice words.

Duckster, no plans to make a pedal car yet, but he is only 14 months.....and yes the neighbors laser cuts too.  He rides with me a lot on my golf cart around the property, but for now the cart is dead, it is at the golf cart hospital but could be serious.

Gr8- I have no idea what kind I am going to get.  I was thinking of saving for a while and getting a Shark CNC with replaceable laser, but it is 5k and a lot of room.  I also want a 3d printer, so we'll see what wins.  For now I have a number of requests to build.

Splint- Is there such a thing as "foot friendly"?  and...it's not my house.

Eric- the trading has worked out well.  I never mentioned he is also a recently retired IT manager.  I have a lot of computers and a server so he has been very helpful.  He is building a Doll house from scratch for his mother.  OMG what a project that is.  He started in Jan and is about 50% done.  He has cut individual siding and cedar shakes, working casement windows, and a 6 panel door so far.....

Mike

Great story,  and a grateful client.

Sweet gift!  And the cherry grain makes it look fast!!  😉
Well done,  there is nothing like the smile from a kid,  too bad they have to grow up!

How bloody true!

Hey!
Some of us are still trying to hold on to our youthful exuberance! If all it takes is a toothy smile to get a cool push toy, I'm gonna do it 😬

It's more about growing up but not growing old  🤠
Thanks Albert...he is a trip.

Duckster-wait....I am not sure you have grown up yet...

Splint-you are, as usual very correct.  I refuse to grow old, some of my friends keep track of their aches vs the weather...I refuse to be a human barometer.  HOWEVER...I have finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up.....wait for it...
RETIRED...this is awesome!

Mike

100% Mike, go for the new tires versus being a retread! 😬

Getting old means you've earned the privilege to be grouchy, complain about stuff like the weather and kids on your lawn, but who wants to fit into a preconceived mould?
