COMFORT CROSSES FOR FOLK SERIOUSLY ILL IN HOSPITAL

I have friends in the Country and its a small town.  There are people in the local Hospital who like to have Comfort Crosses regardless what their beliefs are, they get some comfort holding these crosses while they are laying in hospital.  My friends wife asked me to make some crosses.
This was a project from the other site.  So I don't have much in the way of details.   They are made from plywood and cut  to shape on the Scroll Saw and finished with several coats of Poly.

Nice gesture C'O'...

This was a project from the other site.

Soak them in Bundy,

and who'll care where the "whoopy" crosses came from.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Very good Cliff.
That reminds me an old Navy Chaplain friend has asked me to make something similar

Wonderful gift and I'm sure greatly appreciated.  How do you smooth the edges of the plywood - I don't think I could achieve that (guessing my plywood is lower grade?).
Hi , L. B. D.
Thank you.
That's a Great idea regarding Soaking The Crosses in "BUNDY"  Particularly as the Town they are in is not far from Bundaberg.... "The Home Of Bundaberg Rum"   They grow great sugarcane and make the famous Bundaberg Rum.

Well said you "Old Larrikin"

Hi BB1....Thank you.  Much appreciated.
I am sure you would be able to achieve smooth edges with plywood.
The Plywood I used was not Top Grade Marine Ply...It was reasonably good quality.  The kind of quality you could build something with, without having to worry too much about knots on the surface and bad voiding on the edges.  Probably all Plywood has the potential for some edge voiding.  But if the plywood is of reasonable quality, good results can be achieved.

I found that the rounded shape of the Crosses not only gave them some visual appeal, it made the sanding so much easier.
I used the GUINEVERE inflatable bulbs sanding system and found it a great help.  By using different grades of Sanding Covers over the Bulbs, it was possible to shape the Crosses, then gradually go down through maybe 2 or three grits until the desired thickness was achieved.
I hope this is of some assistance to you.
