Mouse on Cholla

I spent odd moments here and there in August carving a mouse. Wasn’t really happy with it, so I added a leather tail, stuck it on a piece of cholla cane and stuck that on a base I carved round-ish in a hurry one afternoon, and now my sweetie thinks it’s cute enough that she has claimed it.

It's all in the presentation!
Wives are like moms with, some obvious differences. But they both will admire things that we think are pretty useless. Not the wife or mother here, obviously, But that's a pretty cute ensemble, tbh.

Nice work carving the mouse, and the mounting on the stand makes for a cute little knick knack .
Thanks, gents! I’m getting better at mice, but may decide to do eyes and whiskers, or maybe feet, and it’ll all go off the rails for a while.

Those ears look like they took a while.  Not sure how you managed to finish them without snapping one or both off.

I don't miss the feet but without eyes or whiskers it sort of creeps me out.  ;-)  Maybe you could use some thorns from a cholla for the whiskers or cholla seeds for the eyes, though your sweetie might not appreciate making it a dangerous object in the house.

Nicely done

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Nathan, it’s pretty much all about the order of operations. Here’s part 2 of a multi-part discussion that I used as my guide, which gets you up to the point of carving the ears. Part 3 covers the ears themselves.

But yeah, the ears take almost as long as roughing the body. I spent some time making a small shadow of the rear legs too. Next mouse will probably have whiskers and eyes.

Thanks, Ryan!

That's great tutorial.   Thanks.   I'll file that away for the future.

Just read the articles Dave, interesting stuff. Your mouse looks better except for the eyes.

Thanks, Corelz! You’re welcome, Nathan! Thanks, Duck! Gonna have to get past the thing where carving eyes feels creepy, I guess.

Thanks, Mike! Thanks, YRTi! Random indeed, but mice are actually pretty good carving practice. I feel like I learn a few things with every one I do.

Dave,

Nope, Dave, just found that guide by Yoav Liberman and decided to give it a try myself.
