Cam Clamp - 12" Throat

I have 4 other cam clamps but ever so often I need one to go in  farther to put pressure on for a glue up. So today I went to work and made one with a 12" throat. It is made from 1 1/4" x 1 3/4" white oak with a 3/8' x 1 1/2" aluminum slide arm. The cam is 1/2" white oak.
It is held together with 3/16" roll pins and finished with Howard's Feed and Wax. The roll pins are put into the movable arm to prevent wear in those pressure areas. It could be made without them.

Love the reach on that one!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

I've had the need for one or more of these long reach clamps fairly often, just never took the time to make any, but this post may be just the kick in the a## I need. Thanks for posting.
Great idea Jim,  thanks!

Many times I wished for Exactly that.

I don't ever remember seeing a cramp like this before but I can see how useful it would be.
Is it based on an old design? Great build btw
Thank you all for the nice comments.

Hi Pottzy..I did post 4 of them on LJ's before they crapped out!

Handy Jim.

Never made a cam clamp, may have to give it a go some time.
Hi Mike. they don't have the power of a C clamp  or Bar clamp but they do put pressure way in where you cannot normally reach with any other clamp.
