Recipe Box

The recipe box was made for my Granddaughter who has taken an interest in cooking. My wife is giving her recipe cards and has filled out several with family favorites.

The wood is quartersawn Sycamore which is one of my favorite woods.  I had some which I resawed to get 3/8" stock and used 1/4" fingerjoints with a Leigh D4. The finish is multiple coats of white shellac sanding between coats. The final coat was rubbed out with grocery bag paper and gave it a soft smooth feel.
A magnetic catch was used for the lid.

I used blue masking tape to engrave and red acrylic for the fill color.

What a wonderful gift!  Neat to start her off with some family recipes too.

Could you share where you purchased the hinges?
..... I used blue masking tape to engrave.....

Sounds like some powerful tape.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Nice looking finish on the sycamore.
The hinges were in my stash of hinges but came from Rockler.  You can search Rockler for 90 degree stop hinges.
Really nice! Beautiful wood…

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Wonderful gift! That sycamore looks great!

That is a couple of thumbs up for the build and,

Thank you!  I did several searches for hinges and these never popped up.  Do you find the 90 stop is pretty good?  The lid on my current project will be larger, but I would like to avoid adding a support chain.
GR8 JOB 😍😎👍

Sycamore is a great wood,  Have a couple large projects I made from Sycamore, both have held up well.  Yours is gorgeous.    Well done.

Can't beat a finely finished cut of sycamore!
Will be a fine kitchen accessory when she becomes master of her own kitchen!
Very nice gift, really striking. That QS sycamore has so much motion.
