Project Information
New work bench of reclaimed lumber.
Base is mortise and tenon construction . Used 4×4 pine dunnage that I was given. Finished about 3-1/2ish once the twists and bows were milled out. The top is fabricated from salvaged oak joists - 3"+ x 10"+ x about 12' long.the oak and some fir timber's, I bought from a salvage company for $1.25 bf. The tool tray lifts out, for emptying shavings, debris etc and provides an option to fill gap to make a full top if ,as some have suggested, I tire of the tool tray becoming a catch all. Distance from the front edge to the front of the tool tray is 18". Tool tray is about 6" .
Still need to add leather to the leg vise. Have provision built in for a removable dead man.
I have a Wilton quick release vise that I may install as a tail vise in the future.

The top lifts off, if I ever need to move the bench.

a well built beast of a bench dan.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

(Little thumb for the little pictures.)

Are you a cat person?... lack of dogs (holes) surprised me.

Would those Rockler lifter rollers be easier than lift top & move?... or have they been retro'ed?

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Nice solid bench!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

White oak?
That is a top no one wants to lift up more than once. SOLID! 👍
That's a bench that will last a while. 👍🏻

Thanks all. Not a piece of furniture and it does take plenty of abuse, but very solid and flat.

Duck….I’m actually a dog person

and since the original build have added a few dogs to the bench.
