Men's Valet Box

I made this box as a keepsake box, but instead, it has found its true purpose as a men's valet box for one of my sons-in-law.  It's made from Purple Heart and Maple Woods using mitered edges and dovetail splines.  I also added an inlay on the top center panel (with no particular meaning to the design).  The tray is also made from Purple Heart (I/4") using lap joints.  The bases of the box and the tray are made of Baltic Birch Plywood.  I glued up the whole box with lid together, attached the splines, and then cut off the lid to get a better fit.  The key here was keeping the distances between the splines fairly constant between the lid and the top spline on the base allowing for the saw kerf.  Lastly, I added Purple Heart pedestal feet, which, in hindsight, I probably would have made in Maple.
