Keepsakes Boxes with Hidden Hinges

These are three boxes I made with a hidden hinge design.   The design uses a segmented dowel technique that I learned through watching You Tube videos of Rob Cosman, whom I consider to be a very skilled woodworking craftsman.  See Cosman's intro video clip on these:

The three boxes shown here are made in Jatoba and Birdseye Maple (first 2 pics), Wenge and Birdseye Maple (2nd two pics), and Leopard Wood and Birdseye Maple (last 2 pics).  These boxes are all made with hand-cut dovetails using the characteristic sides that extend to the tops of the boxes.  The bottoms of these three boxes are made from 1/4" Baltic Birch, Maple and Eastern Red Cedar, respectively.  The lids are separately constructed with raised Maple Panels.  The backs edges of the lids and the backs of the boxes are routed to accept dowel segments, that I also made from Jatoba, Wenge and Leopard Wood, respectively.  (For these, I used a dowel-making jig that I made from a hand-plane cutting iron and a power drill.) Those dowel segments were connected using brass rods, and carefully glued onto the box backs and lids as per the video.  IMHO, my imitation of Rob Cosman's approach was fairly decent for a newbie hacker like myself, but not as well executed as his.  My hats' off to this master!

?

I've been tempted to tackle Rob's hinge design, but I have not yet found the opportunity. Yours turned out well!
Those look great, nicely done.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".
