Kumiko Box

I made this box for my kitty.

It's a small box so I decided to try Metsubushi Hon-neji Kagome Kumiko (The following are some variations of Kagome Kumiko).

There is actually an even harder variation that you slice the vertical pieces into 3 pieces so you can make a heavy chamfer on the pieces but that's something way beyond my capability (maybe one day).

Anyways, at least I was able to cut pieces that I can assemble (these things are hard to assemble) so I'm happy with it.  I also used curly maple(Tiger maple) because my kitty name was Tiger.

What a great looking box, I’m so sorry to hear you lost Tiger. You just keep getting better at your design as well as your craftsmanship. I’m sure you won’t mind if I copy the design of the top of this box. I try to avoid making things that are hard to dust, but this design is so beautiful I don’t care.

Very nice box, YRTi! A nice resting place, but sorry for the need.

May you have the day you deserve!

my friend you hand tool skills just blow me away. once again incredible craftsmanship. great video also. you created a beautiful final resting place.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Dutchy, Thank you!

Awsum55, Thank you and I'm glad that you liked it that much!  I don't mind even if you make the same thing. As a matter of fact, the design of the Kumiko on the lid was actually heavily inspired by a Japanese craftsman Mr. Ohashi Riichi. You can google "大橋利一 箱" (Ohashi Riichi Box) to find some nice pictures for your future projects.

MikeB, Thank you and Kumiko is really fun!

Dave, Thank you for the comment. She was so old so I knew I needed to make one sooner or later...
