Dad's flag case

So many of you helped me with this, so thank you for all of the suggestions and encouragement.  Couple forum topics cover the background and the long journey to the final outcome.  My brother mailed the flag last week so I could complete the project (it will go back to a nephew when we travel to see family later this year). Case is walnut - no surprise to anyone that knows my preference!  Bit teary when it was all in place.  My dad always had a flag flying and so his Veteran's burial flag needed a proper display.

A classic and well executed design Barb. Wonderful tribute. Nicely done.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

a very fine looking case and great job with the walnut!
I can see the attention to grain alignment and crisp detail. 👍👍👍👍
Nice work, better memories.    Well done.

Thank you so much to everyone for your kind comments.  Looking back at all the help along the way, I know my dad would have found it to be "so neat" to have assistance from people from all over.  He was always amazed at the connections through technology in my woodworking.  I appreciate being part of this community.

That turned out beautifully, Barb. The best thing about this hobby is being able to complete meaningful projects like this one.

And I share your sentiment about the community here. It’s what the internet should be, as opposed to the cesspool it too often it is.
Great job Barb. I know that feeling.

Thank you Ron, Scrappile, and Petey.

Definitely rewarding to be able to put together a project like this.  Was full of challenges (and emotions), but well worth the effort.  I know many have created similar items, and so there is an understanding of the feelings.
Awesome Barb, I'm sure Dad is looking down, and smiling at his flag.

These boxes are sometimes very teary, but that is a good thing.
GeorgeWest-thank you.  And the tears are just part of loving him so much.  Sure miss being able to share my latest project with him.  He would have found all the design aspects and new techniques involved on this project to be so interesting.
I understand that. I miss my Dad every single day. Always something that makes me think of him.
Did some work to refold the flag - thanks to some videos by a Veteran's group and another with Marines for information helpful with burial flags (larger than typical flag).  I have it correct now and back in the case.
Barb,
Such a complicated project and you really nailed it!  (Well, you probably actually glued it!)

Thank you L/W - haha, trying to remember if I used pin nails within the glueup?? 🤔  Glue was definitely more of a factor in the build.  😉 Built this last fall but didn't want to post until the flag was in place.
