Tool Cabinet

Found Mike Pekovich's tool cabinet in Fine Woodworking. Made one similar. Oak, baltic birch ply and walnut trim. Shellac (sealcoat) inside and Osmo top coat finish on outside. Lots of hand cut dovetails took me a while.

That is very nice.  Great layout with easy access (tool spacing).  Some of these that I see look great because of how tight they look, but I know that can lead to a less than pleasant experience trying to use them.
Excellent Ron, agree with the tool layout, a little space for fingers is a must.

Love your TS edge jig, is that an aluminum  plate used for the base?
Nice work, Ron! Bet that kept you busy for a while, and bet your dovetails improved along the way.

May you have the day you deserve!

Very nicely done. I’ve always liked that design. Great job!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

nice setup ron, great organization.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

well done looks very usable.    Now what are you going to do with all the space where the tools use to be?

Ron

Nice, looks great, looks like a well organised shop there.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Very nice tool storage cabinet. I love organizational projects!!!!

Thanks everyone!

SplinterGroup - The TS edge is a piece of melamine closet shelving. Seems to work ok.

Dave Polaschek - That cabinet took me a couple of months. My first hand cut dovetails. I eventually want to go all hand tools. This is a start.

987Ron - Yes this cabinet created a lot of empty drawers elsewhere in the shop. But I've filled about have of them. Just need more stuff to fill the remainder.
That’s a good project to learn dovetails on. I find I use them on most corners now, down to 1/4 inch thick stock. I’ll sometimes do miters and (hand-cut dovetailed) splines if I want that look, with a contrasting spline and a grain-wrap that meets at the corner, but 90% of the time when I’m making a box, I cut dovetails. And nearly everything ends up being a box.

May you have the day you deserve!

What a great tool cabinet.  As others have said, the layout is obviously well thought-out.  Really nice job all around.
Beautiful cabinet! The double layer concept allows a lot of tools in a small space.
I've always wanted to build one and this might be my inspiration.... nice layout.
