Another workbench vise

I made a workbench a few months ago out of ash with two Rockler vises. I decided that I needed another vise - one that could be moved from bench to bench.

I found the Benchcrafted Hi-vise kit online and ordered the parts. Bought some more ash and made the vise. Watco danish oil finish.

Easy build using the included instructions, but cutting a good looking ogee on the top of the vise jaws was challenging.

Looks great Ron, I think you set the record for most vises per linear foot on your bench. I’m jealous !
🤣 nothing wrong with that though ? 🤔

Really nice! Great job.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

and Welcome!

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Nicely made Hi-Vise, they come in very handy.
That was fun watching your bench build. Were the pins offset to drawbore, or straight in. Looked like you had to really smack em to get em in.

Being older, slower and weaker I can appreciate how you built the M&T's into the legs. I believe I would have done same with the stretchers. There was a day chopping out big mortises was viewed as fun. Not so much anymore.

That new vice is something. How you gonna use it like a cross between a Moxon, and a leg vice. I'll have to scoot over and see what Jameel has gotten into. I had not seen these before, a Hi Vise, whatdayaknow.
great bench and vice

Very well done!

Excellent vise and the work bench looks pretty good as well.  Well done.

Thanks everyone!!

GeorgeWest - yes the pegs in the workbench are drawbore. I got some plans for the bench somewhere and the plans recommended a drawbore. I think the offset of the holes was almost 1/8"?, so it took some pounding to get the pegs in.

I'm going to use the vise mainly as a stitching pony for making leather knife sheaths. I like how high the jaws are - don't have to bend over to see what I'm doing.
Dang, that sure is some sturdy, high-end shop furnishings! Well done!
Great vise. It will come in handy!!
