Awe, More Awls!

I needed to replenish my stock of awls for the craft shows this fall and tried some different woods that I have not used before. In the first shot the 4 stuck in the wood are made from Acacia. The one laying down is Texas Ebony.
The all have hardened tool steel points and brass ferrules. I inserted a Remington 35 caliber casing in all of these. They are finished with EEE and Shellawax.ย

Sweet looking awl, should sell out fast, and that casing insert is a great touch. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Nice work, Jim. Iโ€™ve been working on grinding a tapered square brad-awl point on mine. Havenโ€™t quite got it right yet, but Iโ€™m zeroing in on it,

May you have the day you deserve!

Nice awls Jim! Just beautiful. I had some splinter scrap pieces of tool steel left over from making some moulding planes. Couldn't bear to toss in the trash so I made a birdcage awl. Lots of fun!
Thanks you all for the nice comments!! I like your optimism on selling all of these puppies. The next ones will beย  just a bit different!

Jim, if you don't sell them out, let me know, and I'll buy one from you. I have a collection, and that handle shape isn't amongst what I have. Very nice looking BTW.
Thanks, George!!ย

Hi Ivan. Do you still use it??

Those are beautiful and I bet they work great too.
Thanks, Swirt. They have a needle point on them and fit very nicely in your hand for scribing . Much better for control than aย  long awl.
Cheers, Jim
