Mainly a test for finishing quarter sawn white oak.

  • 21" high x 18" round top
  • Quarter sawn white oak.
  • Ammonia fumed and finished with pre-cat lacquer
  • Through tenons, half lapped cross braces, G&G style ebony plugs over dowel  pins.
Thanks!

Real nice tables, Bruce  ! I see you used white oak...good choice. I made one with red oak and it turned black from the over watering of the plant on it! I put corian on all the other I made after that!!

Love the details, all the ray fleck, and everything about the tables. I guess I was just expecting darker, with the Ammonia. Not saying it as a bad thing, just surprised they aren't darker

That color does work well with the green plants, so if they were going to be adorned with greenery it would work.
Thanks Jim, Geroge!

They are actually quite dark (see closeup of the top). About the same, slightly lighter that oiled walnut. Out in the sun or with a light shining on them they seem to glow.
I I was looking forward to seeing the final products and now I see them! The finish gives more depth of the color and they are so good looking!

Hi YRTi
I'm happy with the result, but a few things I'll change. The wood really likes to change depending on the light direction. I pity the person who gets to move them around the room 10,000 times while someone else determines when they are best. Like moving a heavy couch, it usually ends up in the original spot 🙄
Splinter, I'm the person who moves everything 10,000 times but I'm just told to do so, haha!

you got a thumbs up and induction to my tables collection !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

That gives me a warm and fuzzy Pottz, and nothing to do with Gerbils! 😱

Reminds me of the bear/rabbit joke... hope your gerbils have fur coats.

Nice tables! Like the aesthetic.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

GR8 JOB 😍😎👍

Very nice work. I like the detail work, the rounded edges, the contoured head on the plugs, etc. Looks classic.
Good looking tables, Splint! The shifting colors is what we called an “unexpected feature” when I was working in the software world. Let marketing figure out a way to make it sound like you meant to do that. Maybe “a room-sensing kaleidoscopic finish,” or something such.

May you have the day you deserve!

Great looking tables. The detail shots really came out nice! Great job.
Thanks everyone!

Good idea Dave! Maybe start giving names to pieces "Disco Stool" or "glow wood finish"
Given the way disco was treated during my deformative years, “disco stool,” makes me think more of a turd with glitter, which may not be what you intended.

May you have the day you deserve!
