Japanese Locking Tool Box

I decided to make this
Pine Japanese Locking Tool Box.  It uses a wedge to lock the top. Box construction is dovetails.

The moving wedge has a bevel that matches another bevel fixed on the lid.

The lid is fixed tightly and very secure.

Makes for a very unique gift!

Cheers!

Very nice! Could be adapted for many uses.
It was a surprising build SplinterGroup! I didn't think I'd like it but I do. Actually, I made two as gifts. They're unique. I used Spalted Pine. The taper between the two pieces is tricky and must be perfect to work flawlessly but not hard to achieve.
Nice! Love the classic build.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks RyanGi. It was fun to make.
Wedged closure, pretty slick. Looks bombproof. :-)
Thanks GeorgeWest, Steve!
very nice design and well crafted

nicely done, interesting.

Thanks 987Ron!

At first before building, I thought it looked kind of blunt, maybe too square. But after making it, I found it has a simple charm.

I've been making moulding planes and thinking about a box to store them. Perhaps... I'll make another sized for the planes.
I’ve always appreciate the simple, sometime chunky or unrefined look of some Japanese styles. Something rustic, yet functional about it.

I know what you mean Ryan. They have usually managed to capture elegance with simplicity and function.
Clean & sturdy with straight lines…
Following Japanese lid design not using screws or nails, but joinery.
Good job!
Thank you LolJimy7! I'm pretty much an all joinery, all hand tools man and....I'm not fond of nails and screws.
