My first commission job

My brother is an EMT in CT for the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department and they wanted Christmas ornaments for people who donate to the department.

They asked for 48 so far and said it might lead to other VFD’s wanting to do the same thing.

Ganged them up on 12”x12” 3mm plywood, burned the front and without moving the full sheet I flipped the items and did the back.

My brother who happens to be a cabinet maker by trade said he might try some aniline dye. I tried some shellac and water based dye and they came out very blotchy, so I sent them unfinished.

I gave them a few options, but with all the political correctness the department opted not to mention any holiday.

This is their logo, so I used the shape of their patch as the ornament.

This design took 3.5 minutes each to burn, so about 1 hour per 12”x12” sheet. I tried to do one with the symbol and letters black but that would take 33 minutes each. That wasn’t going to happen.

Hey, you don't know me, but you don't like me ... Buck Owens

Looks good...

I can grid position my job using x/y co-ordinates and place it at 0,0 fort the top engrave and cut.  I then flip the board (usually reposition the cut pieces upside down... and try not to throw away the frame beforehand and naturally control the reverse side engrave (without the cut) controlled by software.  (FAIW, I use CorelDraw.)

I gave them a few options, but with all the political correctness the department opted not to mention any holiday.
Many call it political correctness... I still think its more BS WOKEdom.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
