Wanna see my Ash Bowl.

I told my wife I was going to show everyone my ash-bowl and she didn’t believe me. I said “Really, I’ll do it”. She dared me, so here it is.

The dreaded Emerald Ash Borer destroyed my one and only ash tree that gave us shade on our back deck. I asked the tree guys to leave me a couple of branches.

Now that I have my new bandsaw, I cut a few sections into boards, and this section I mounted on my lathe. I might cut this down some or make a top for it. I’m gonna call this almost complete.

3.37” high and 4.75 wide. Finished with OSMO and waxed.

Quit showing your Ash John, nobody wants to see it. :-)

Love the bowl though. At our old place we had planted 35 Ash of all varieties, we did systemic spray when we were still there, and they were all fine. Passed that on to the buyer, but he got sick not long after they moved in, not sure if that got sent along to next buyer. 2 years after we were gone, all of them were dead and crispy. Fecking bugs, yekkk. You just don't see any ash around here anymore, and that is sad.

It's not that I'm into bowls, but this looks more like a ball and I am at loggerheads with the garden so I couldn't leave it alone.

I wanted to turn all the trees in my "garden" to ash, but SWMBO said I'd be locked up for arsin' about.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

I would call it "done" - looks great!
Very nicely done! Beautiful wood.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

well done why did she doubt youd show us ?

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice ash John! It's got great shape and a nice shine to it.
I like your ability to get such smooth and uniform shapes John. Fine turning!

Bought the winter supply of wood stove pellets. Label says 100% ash hardwood. Small print states "less than 1% ash"

quite controversial id say ? probably mdf !

Thanks for the looks, you all are so kind.
I only made this to see if the wood was seasoned enough. It has no purpose and I will probably cut it down a little to open the top.
I only posted this because I still think like an adolescent and thought that "ash bowl" sounded funny.
