Zebra wood Potpourri box

I have been exploring different things I can do with my laser. Cutting designs in solid wood is much easier now with a 30w laser.
This particular box will be used for Potpourri, but can also be used as just a box.
Since my projects keep getting smaller, I am also trying to give up using imperial measurements. Because millimeters are easier to write down,  remember and the math is also easier to do.  The box is Zebra wood and the splines are Padauk. I don't know what the top is , but I used the same wood on the bottom and I think I show a better picture in the last photo. Maybe someone can figure it out. I'm terrible when it comes to identifying wood species. This box with a sliding top is 145 x 70 x 60 mm (approx 5 3/4" x 2 7/8" x 2 1/4).

This is beautiful!  What finish did you use?  Looks great!
Thanks Barb, I used OSMO. I think it is one of the best finishes to use when there are several nooks and crannies. No chance of puddling and it's very fast and easy.

Nice wood and great design. What kind of wood is that. I’d like to try something like that.

Sharp looking box and lid design John 👍

I've never seen zebra wood with those dark colors, what are the splines?
AWESOME BOX AWSUM ! 😁

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Dr Q, the box is Zebra wood. Give it a try, it is so accurate it amazes me. 😮

Bruce the splines are Padauk and the Zebra wood, Rockler labeled it as such. A lot of lumber I have is from yard sales so I never know unless it's obvious.

Thank you Pottz

Nicely done!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Ryan, got the plane and it's in good shape even though the UPS tried to destroy it. Thanks.

Awsum

Nice box. Bottom might be red oak.

Petey

I should have know what wood it was by your title. Did you stain the zebra wood?

Dr. Quackner

Thanks Petey. It’s embarrassing, but I rarely know what I'm using unless it's labeled.

Nope, no stain Doc just OSMO
