DOG MEMORIAL SHADOW BOX

this is a shadow box i made for a co workers husband. his dog and best friend past away recently and he had this paw imprint with a small vial of his hair made right before. his wife wanted to make something so he could display it on his desk, so of course i said no problem. it is made from walnut and padauk. the medallion is encased in a block of walnut. if he ever wants to remove it the back comes off. i put a piece of 1/4" plexi to cover it. both side right out for cleaning. the top is held on with rare earth magnets. i put rubber drawer liner on the bottom. it's finished with one coat of general finishes arm r seal semi gloss and 3 coats of semi gloss lacquer. i hope he likes it as much as i do ?
back cover that holds the medallion.

the circles were cut using a milescraft circle cutter that works very well. the in side of the holder is lined with weather stripping to keep the medallion snug.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

That’s a great box, Pottz, and an even greater gesture from you. It’s a fitting keepsake for a faithful companion. I’m sure your coworker’s husband will treasure it.
That's purty!
What color you gonna paint it?

thank you ryan ! it is a lot easier when it's not for yourself, but not much. the guy is actually a customer of mine for the last 35+ years. and his son works for me ! so this is very personal !!!!
