NEW GATE AND FENCE

well the gate and short fence leading to the alley has seen better days and many termites. been needing to do this for the last year or more and being off this week was the perfect time to do it. pre made and painted the gate and fence boards making today much easier and faster. gate frame was put together with dominos. started demo right before 9am and was done by 1pm. couple mistakes were made that added some time but it went very smooth for the most part.
every piece i could got painted before hand.

here's the before.
if you look at the bottom of corner post you can see a block of wood. that kept the fence upright. there was no wood left in the ground !

not sure why this pic is so small ? but you can see another block at the bottom that held up the fence ! it was in bad shape. so cal termites at their best 😎
the post is doug fir, the gate frame cross members are pre primed spruce, we sell tons of it, and the fence boards cedar. last one was redwood contrary to what most think is candy for termites. the redwood today is all new growth, mostly sap wood unlike the old growth redwood of times past. dont waste your money on it for outdoor projects !

Looks good Pottz. I never knew that termites enjoyed snacking on redwood. All of my outdoor projects up here in the Bay Area are redwood, hopefully those little critters won’t discover them. I also like both your signs; I can’t read the second one but the image says it all.
Anything to make painting easier is a good idea.
Secure!  Looks good.

thanks guys. here's the second one. i hope anyone wanting to enter without an invitation takes it serious. beacuse i sure do !!!

I like it, now can I get one that has a picture of my 12 gauge shotgun?
mines a .32 caliber snub nose S&W i keep in the night stand next to my bed. i have a raised bottom on the drawer and have the gun under it. i just roll outta bed pull open the drawer and reach under for the gun. a thief would never realize whats under the drawer. i used to use a .357 magnum with hollow pints but in the middle of the night it might be a little too much. plus the mess of a hollow point going threw someone at point blank  !!!! 😱🤢 but i pray i never need to use it ! hey at least im warning em !

here's some pic's of the redwood post. as you can see they will eat the wood out right up to the paint. you would think it's ok until you press on the wood and it crumbles !

now it's burning in my chiminea ! at least it has a second life 😁

Nice replacement P!
Are you going to replace the topper slats?

That original post looked cemented in, did you chop all that out and re-concrete or just sized to the original hole?
That sounds like a nice drawer setup! I keep my .357 Sig Sauer in a Gunvault wall mounted safe beside my bed. It stays locked during the day, and unlocked with the door open at night. I have a laser attached which is an awesome addition, particularly in a dark self defense situation. Like you I hope to never need to use it! But the plan is to grab the Sig and take a defensive position behind the bed. While my wife calls 911,  if time allows I will be pulling my Remington 12 gauge from under the bed. As has been said before, the purpose of a handgun is to get to your shotgun.
splint it was a cement cavity the size of the old post so i trimmed down the new post the exact size. im gonna calulk around the new post to try and keep water out.

dog, exactly what im doing. no kids in the house so no worry other than keeping it secure from a vandal when were gone. wife doesn't like guns so she doesn't even know where i keep it. the worst thing is a loaded gun in the hands of someone nervous and afraid of it ?

Very true, my wife doesn’t shoot either. Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack your post. Carry on…
dog no problem. ive hijacked more threads than i can even count or think about. LBD (the duck ) and i used to take over threads so many times it's rediculous. hell i think he actually hijacks his own ! 🤣 buddy thats what makes threads more interesting. we always seem to come back on topic though !

I have a gun safe. That's where I keep my collectables. The users, not in it.

Standard acknowledgement...

For the "extra than norm" post effort.

Unfortunately, because of our gun laws, the best I can do,

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Nice build pottz! It looks like you got all the use out of the old setup!
Pottz

One more, Nice work!

Can't you use termite traps?  We do here in Florida.
