Cutting Board End Grain Scaffold Pattern

I thought I needed a new challenge so I decided an end grain scaffold pattern cutting board looked good.
I found a pattern online plus a video on YouTube so off I went to the timber supplier and bought dark walnut, maple and cherry for the contrasting colours.
I thought I might as well make two boards at the same time, so after much planning and cutting and gluing I ended up with these two boards.

The only finish applied so far is Tung Oil, I do plan to polish them with bees wax so they will be food safe. Note how the end grain of walnut looks black after the application of Tung Oil.
For any one interested in making these cutting boards here is a link to a video on You Tube.  https://youtu.be/-jdcRyj-Elo?si=zPmV60FMmvNvmZQC

Wow!  Looks very complicated.  You did a great job.
Nice!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Bit of a deviation PJ... kept looking for the wheels.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

That is pretty cool. It's an intriguin pattern that catches the eye. Nice work.

fantastic. I can't imagine the amount of patience and attention to angles that it took to pull that off.
Plus one on the use of Tung oil.  One caution about the bees wax though.  It will make any future applications of pure Tung oil less likely to adhere well. Tung oil bonds well to cured Tung oil but does not bond well to wax.  You can get a nice polished finish with Tung alone.
Very well done!
Getting those sizes and angles all perfect to avoid big gaps is a huge challenge!
Good looking and eye catching boards.  Well done.

That is an excellent cutting board. I'm trying one too but not as intricate as that for a starter!!

I'd take a knife to anyone that took a knife to this... Just kidding, not condoning violence.

Nevertheless, would hate to see even a small scratch on that intricate surface.

Cool board, thanks for the video link. Looks like a nice project.

Duck, if it's well oiled end grain, you shouldn't see many marks as it's just about self healing.
Wow!

A job for a good miter Guage?

Something different, but as always  high quality.

Hmmm GW... even the originator seems to thinks it's only for display,

Sorry PJ... hell, I never realised the amount of work involved... you must have used a metric ruler, no pussy footing about.
