This model has taken me a while to complete due to problems mostly caused by myself in wanting to modify the original plans by T&J's. I had made one of these many years ago as per the plans, even down to using T&J's kit supplies which included their own spoked wheels, which I must say weren't that flash. Anyhow I decided this one must have opening doors, front wheel steering and a V12 engine which meant that the bonnet/hood had to be able to be opened or removed. I chose the latter as I just couldn't figure out how to make very small hinges for a fold up bonnet. I ended up with a lift off bonnet which meant it had to be created in 3 pieces which causes more problems like how to hold it in place. I moved the firewall forward where it should have been in the first place and the fan shroud behind the radiator all help to keep the bonnet in place. Steering meant changing the solid base/floor of the original design to a chassis rail setup and allowing enough room for wheels to turn as well as room to fit in a V12 engine. Other changes include deleting the A pillars and mounting the windscreen on top of the cowling where it should be. A proper dash with a curved top as per the real thing was needed not only to look correct but to support the top door hinges. The steering wheel is bigger and the seat has been moved forward along with foot pedals etc,. I no longer buy model kits like T&J's. These days I make everything myself including dowels and wheels. The main body of the car is dark Walnut with American Cherry guards and chassis rails. All the white timber is Holly including white walls for the tyres. The tyres are ebonized Mahogany. Model has been finished in tung oil.
thats freakin awesome peter. i couldn't even think of doing a model like this say nothing about all the mods you made. the only thing i would do different, is a gloss finish that would really make it glow like the original car would have. awesome work.
working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

If you couldn't even think of doing a model like this and you would do a gloss finisch you only would have got a layer of glossy varnish Pottz. 😊. I challenge you to make a (different) model too 😉
That is absolutely stunning. I could go on about the great job you've dome on each component,
... BUT...
I used to rebel against sideways pictures in the past... But this is verging on a similar mortal sin... if not for the build, but for the presentation, you should have mirrored your pictures... a right hand drive in Kiwiland????... next you'll be braging about using imperial tape measures.
If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
I have no words to say how great this is. This the best model I have seen. If possible, please show us some pictures of how you made some of the parts and keep posting your projects.
As Jan said, there are only a couple who could pull this off. There are always people who set the standard and I think for me when it comes to models Peter and Jan take the cake. That's a beautiful model and the contrast in timbers makes a massive impact. Where is it destined for Peter? Wowee !!
