Fordson Super Dexta by Dutchy

I made these two Fordson Super Dexta's a while ago and I had a request to put them up here.
This fantastic model from Dutchy Plans is one of the most detailed models I have ever made and also one of the most rewarding.
These two are made from New Zealand Kauri, American Walnut, Cherry, the white wheel rims are Holly and the tyres are ebonized Mahogany. Everything has a final finish of Tung Oil.
One of the biggest challenges is making the gears for the steering box but well worth the effort.
Anyone who has not attempted to build one of Dutchies models should give them a go. The plans are excellent with heaps of detail.

wow !!! you made dutch proud with these man ! i love especially the detail in the tires !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

I agree with pottz - the black details really add a lot to these already impressive models!
Are they left or right hand drives?  Or are they uni-drive and need a license to drive to the University??

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Sorry PJ, for some reason I thought Dutchy posted it... otherwise I'd be ruder...

Should have realised it was you with your ebonizing mastery.

An excellent job with so many details !!!
awesome job, the tires look like they would feel like rubber if you touched them.
Those are beyond awesome models.  I love antique tractors. Brings out the "wish I would have been a farmer in me".
Many years ago I made my first wooden model. I had some days off.  It was a Jeep from T & J.

I was hooked and started to delve more and more into making wooden models. That's how I ended up at LJ and later at Craftisian. There were several "toy makers" such as Htl, LBD and Gr8hunter where I liked to copy the art. But one stood out and that was Peter Jones. Unbelievable what this man made. Without wanting to disrespect the others, Peter's level is exceptional.

And it was I who asked him to post this Fordson here on Craftisian. Also to make others enthusiastic. I hope Peter will take the time to show more of his work here soon.

Love these!  Amazing level of detail.
Do you apply finish as you build?  Trying to imagine how you get finish on all these pieces.

lots of detail, great duo.    Well done.

Hi BB1, sometimes I will apply Tung Oil as I go in places like around the engine and other places that are difficult to get at later. I always oil the tyres as soon as the tyre/wheel assembly is finished before installation on the model because ebonizing has a tendency to fade quickly if is not sealed straight away
Tony and Peter- thanks for explaining your process.  These projects are so detailed.  I love seeing them and how realistic they are.
Beautiful!  All ready for the fall harvest
