With all the hip shooting cowboys bragging about their weapons (impression gained from the barvados both here and LumberJocks), I felt inadequate and had to pull out my rubber band shooter. I never posted it as a project there, however, I thought I might do it here if only to bolster my non-puzzle project quota and prove there is a workaround our gun embargo here in Aussieland.
While this may be more MDF junk, I’ve thrown in quite a few rubbers to keep the population down… the fly and spider population. These are better, at least more fun, than my hand operated, single shot blunderbuss,
I came across this YouTube video
and in its comments there was a link to downloaded the PDF… in fact the chap has quite an array of rubber band weapons.
With laser cut MDF in mind, the laborious task of importing the PDF into SketchUp was undertaken…mind you, SketchUp is not PDF friendly.
Eventually I came up with this model that can be downloaded from the 3DW at,
From SketchUp
→ Layout → Corel → laser was a smooth transition. The only requirement was to re-arrange the parts passed from SketcUp to Corel for efficient laser cutout.
Then it was a case of gluing up
loading,
and test firing,
Unfortunately I made this a around the time that LJ was throwing its wobbly and discovering Craftisian, and not planning to publish an article, I neglected to take any build photos.
While it has 4 in the chamber and a swag in the magazine, it is limited to 4 rapid shots before the need to reload… though the author’s video hints you can double barrel, as the stacking may hold lower layers down… I haven’t tried that concept as 4 shots are more than enough to take down my toughest adversary.
The free plans were downloaded from this site. The author has some videos of both the firing and the build. If you watch the videos, he shows how he made it using conventional tools so stop whingeing about not having a laser..
If anyone with a laser is interested and not into SketchUp and would like some SVG diagrams, I could try to make them available on request.
I also have the SketchUp models for,
AK47
L96A1 Sniper rifle
While not on the African big 5 list, the 4 shots can either give a spider a four legged chance to get away or it will test your mettle in multi damage per shot… just don’t shoot the gun in the kitchen as misses (not the missus) might render the spaghetti dinner more rubbery than the family is accustomed to.
Living in downtown Churchill, I’m gonna need something like this gun to ensure Santa leaves presents and not take them, on Christmas eve… maybe the AK47,
Don’t be crafty Craftisians,... SHARE your craft!
If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
Here in Aussieland if the cops saw me with it out in the streets, I wouldn't be arrested... SWMBO would be ordering a coffin.
mel52 commented 4 days ago Good job. Looks like I could have a lot of fun with that until the wife takes it away. Nothing like an irritated target. lol
Know the feeling... I can only take it out from lock and key (not mine) under supervision...
