Plain Veritas “Router Plane” Box.

Boys and Girls,

It’s not that I still have a forest of MDF trees in my back yard as Splinter alludes to… since my last post was a puzzle, this is a testament to one of my MDF projects I posted at LJ back in April , 2019 and since that MDF revelation, my forest has been diminishing at an exponential rate.  Consequently I decided to bring this across before those few trees fail to survive in an arid Churchill climate.

3DW downloadable model,

Not being a puzzle, no A4 PDF solution is available… sorry.

Boys and Girls,

It's nearly as hard accepting being 70 as forgetting about my last 69.  Looks like I've developed another growth ring and accompanying that was a selection of Veritas Router Plane blades,
I've had the plane.
for some months now (it was a Chrissy prezzie), but with the extra blades I wasn't happy with them playing footsies with each other in the original cardboard box.

In the past, I used to make "fancy" tool boxes out of solid timber (primarily pine),
however, for this I thought a simple laser cut MDF box will suffice.

Off the laser, the top and sides fit together like a jigsaw and I attempted to see how many clamps the CA glue could hold,
the top was laser engraved using the Pinewood font,
Using my dowel aligned laminating technique, for the base and the bit holders, the box rolled off the production line,

glued,
tested for fit,
tunged,
and wipe-on-polied… rebelliously with a brush,
Couldn't maintain keeping it plain and seeing how it was a plane (which sees the ground green… DOH!), flock it… I decided not to flock it red,
Finally it was ready to get hidden in the LBD storage system…
Closeup view,
distant view,

I can only surmise that for the odd few of you out there that don't have a laser, don't waste time reading this.
For those that have a laser, may I suggest you try making it out of solid timber.

OOPS! Nearly forgot, anyone not interested in the SketchUp model, please don't download this.

Great build, ducky!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Nice job.  A good tool deserves a sturdy box.

Huh? Whadaya mean it ain't "measure once cut twice"?

Nicely done, write up, pictures, box.

Ron

Nice build and write up! Those two storage system photos are not that different!
Love the box, just wish I had the router plane to go with! (wink, wink, nudge, nudge. Say no more, say no more.)

Though I am a EE, resurrecting the plane seems the first task. Get the router working might get me that router plane I so really want!
Packing material? What you see is what I got. I thought you were the bubble wrap king? Was looking forward to entertaining the dogs with popping the wrap!

Also hoping Santa gives me a larger drum sander, wonder what I'll get? 🤔
who would ship something like that !

oh ducky, ducky, dear ducky !  do i need to show my box made from "real" wood...

Not everyone works for a lumber company and able to afford the exorbitant shekels for solids... or sneak them out on the back of the truck.
I'm just funded by NASA whose budget is forever declining and my drinking buddy Billy Nelson seldom visit lumber yards in search of bargains... all they can offer me is laboratory fabricate merchandise.

 SplinterGroup

Splint', at least you have the plane, just need assembly like all Veritas shipped (boat/train type and not air freighted)  items... and to boot, the box finished up in tact!

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

hey ducks that lumber "really" did fall off the truck as it drove away !!!!🙄 was i supposed to just leave it in the driveway ? 😏

YES.... Either back or front... I have even addressed them for you... just shove aside the snow Mokey is gonna mail me...
Back driveway...around the corner to the right, out of sight...

Front driveway... under the carport, behind the trailer...

If you're talking shekels for the 3 bedroom/small office shack... it is a double block with and uncontrollable jungle of weeds and venomous things that bite.  I'd be lucky to get $350K for it... and consider the $1 : $0.62 currency conversion rate, NASA needs to up their game with me... most of that would be for my 5KW solar system... and my puzzle cabinets... my Fe$tools stay with me in my bed.

Pottzy, in CA you are probably required by law to promptly take that industrial spillage to the nearest hazmat recycling yard, pay the fine and fees, and hope no one protests at your house!
yeah pretty much !
