My friend Nick has a 6yr old boy who has type 1 diabetes. he has to be constantly monitored for sugar level. I thought I should take him a toy when I drop off the rattle for then new baby. So I made this 19th century toy for him. The cup is 1 1/2" diameter and 4 1/4" long and the ball is 3/4" diameter. Both are made from mesquite and finished with clear satin enamel.

Nice you think of everyone!

Old school toy, but less destructive than the paddle with the ball and rubber band 😀
Fun!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

One word. Brilliant!

Some of my most creative moments have been when I've had to cover up an error in my woodworking.

Hours of active fun right there. Even if he isn't into sports, he'll get a good level of activity with that rig. Perfect gift.
Old school game....you can never get tired of that

Thanks for the inspiration, Jim! After seeing yours, I knocked one out. The ball on mine got a little smaller than I intended because I spent a while chasing round, before I finally found the right shape. Which is probably fine. Both my sweetie and I managed to catch the ball within a few tries.

May you have the day you deserve!

Hi Dave. I have seen yours posted. Aren't they fun to make??? Even more fun trying to catch that ball!!!
I'm glad I got you interested in making one. Years ago our guild volunteered to make a few hundred 19th century toys for the kids that come to Meijers Gardens for their winter festival. The cup and ball toy was one of them along with the buzz  saw toy and the magic dropping cube.
