Mesquite Bowl

I was asked to make a mesquite bowl for  a lady in our park so I made this one from a huge log that had been cut for some time. I found it to be  cracked pretty bad all the way through the center so it was filled with black epoxy to be sure it held together while being turned.. one branch was going through it and some turquoise was added around it on the inside and outside.
It is 10 1/2" x 3 1/4" high and finished with a buff and wax on the outside and with Walrus oil cutting board wax on the inside. My 3" buffing wheels I have in the park are too small to do the inside of something this big

Very nice looking bowl Jim, especially that epoxy reinforcement & it's coloring.
Pretty!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Lovely bowl.   Like the wood and the shape.
Not much mesquite in this part of the world.

Handsome bowl, Jim!

May you have the day you deserve!

That epoxy is a wood saver. So many cookies would be unusable without it. It adds a nice contrast color, is functional, and I think makes a nice conversation starter from some wood that otherwise might not make the journey. Plus that Mesquite can be quite the charmer itself. The limb is an added bit of conversation, and some mesquite almost needs some turquoise to make it complete. Nice piece of work, looks like it would make a nice centerpiece on the table.
Thank you all for the nice comments !!!! This bowl is for Ruthie from Iowa who will be back next week to pick it up.

Hi George. I turned away about 90% of the black epoxy I poured into this blank. I have been using a lot of epoxy lately. I even bought a gram scale for weighing it before mixing. I have a scale at home and had borrowed one here in the park at first, but I don't borrow anything twice...I buy my own if the need arises again. I bought a lot of different color inlays up in Gilbert last week, but for mesquite, turquoise just looks right.
