Maple/Padauk Fragrance Box

I've read that people use essential oils in their homes to set the mood and make their place smell nice. This box measures 155mm x 85mm x 65mm ( approx 6 1/8" x 3 3/8" x 2 5/8" ). I'm trying to come up with different designs to use for adding a favorite fragrance to their living space.
I wish I had made the maple that wraps around the box and the top a little bit narrower. I think it makes the box look too squatty from the side view. One more reason I need to start with paper or SketchUp before I start to build.🙄

Nice little box! How did you do the design? I need something that has anti-smell to keep around for the dogs.

Nicely done!  I think we are our worst critic.  With contrasting wood, finding the right balance is challenging.  Hard to say what is the "best" as too thin and it could look fragiIe.  I like the box and the lid graphic is the attention grabber for me.  Is that lid laser or painted?
More awesomness JD!
I really like the lid panel, great choice for a small box.I'm in the same boat as you re. the design. I seem to just try to create the panel and then figure out what to do with it. Good thing about boxes is there are so many ways to go from there. Bad thing is there are so many ways...
Nice box; agree with you the lid appears too heavy.
I’ll bet you can take off 3/16” around and it’ll look great.

Looks great!!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks Larry, I knew it as soon as I finished the top that the dimensions could be better.

Thank you Steven. I found a design on the web and used Illustrator to alter it to fit my box. Sometimes if the cut out areas are too close to each other the sections will burn together. If the wood is too thin, the top will lose integrity.  So being able to alter found art is very helpful.

Thank for the compliment Barb. I agree we all see our own mistakes others might not. I like this box top enough to maybe make the box over. I should have mentioned this one is a cut out also like my last couple of boxes.

Thanks Bruce I can’t wait to see what you come up with. There are so many new things that can be done with that tool.

Thanks Gary. Yes that might be a solution, I’ll have to see what can be done.

Lovely!  I agree about the top but it’s not noticable.  Especially to the untrained eye.  I think equal thickness to the bottom would give nice symmetry but I doubt anyone would complain.  I wouldn’t 😉
Can't miss with padouk. I like that bird motive on top lid

Thank you Ivan
