1974 Jeep Restoration

I needed a retirement project. I rebuilt a CJ7 on a much smaller scale about 40 years ago. I always wanted to have another, but a CJ5.

I haven’t mig welded in so long the old mig welder didn’t work anymore, so I found a used Lincoln.

I cut, formed, sanded, welded, ground, and bondoed for 2 months. For the last 3 weeks I determined I’d finally be finished bodywork tomorrow. Tomorrow another task showed up.

Frame was near perfect however. It’s way I jumped on this particular jeep. I decided I could fix anything else, but want a solid frame. It’s been wire wheeled, wire brushed and power washed. It’s got a coat of Summit Racing self etching primer and Chassis paint. Before it ever hits the highway it will be undercoated with New Hampshire undercoating or Fluid Film.

Next order will be a 2” body lift kit, I already have the original kit, and a painless wiring harness.

My current plan (and it’s a fluid plan) is to replace the rear bed with a wood floor similar to the old vintage pickups.

That's going to be way cool when done!  Please do keep us updated.
Gonna look sharp!

A friends girlfriend at the time (mid 80's) bought a 74 (75?) CJ5 and as the 4x4 guy I had to fix a few things.
Recall that the power brake booster was a transitional unit that year and never could find a replacement. A few other oddities but otherwise quite simple to work on.
Looks awesome! Keep updating!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Cool project Don, new vehicles just don't cut it anymore. No style and they all look alike.

Older cars, jeeps, still allow us to be the driver and decision maker, no.computer control.   Makes driving fun and a joy.
Great restoration project.   Being well done.

I've been following along on the other social media site also. You're moving a long at a pretty steady pace. Going a lot faster than I thought it would take. Next you got a do something with a little more style for the wife. More like a 66 Nova or Chevelle.
