· A coaster based on my VW Logo from the Woody Ute project
· And a grill scraper
First, a note on the beers.
I enjoy spending time trying to find an appropriate set of beers for my recipient. Finding beer for pottz was a treat since I tend to choose heavier beers. I had a lot of fun researching!
I brought home about 10 beers and from them I selected:
1. Hatsu Basho – a rice lager at 4.5% ABV from North Jetty Brewing in Loing Beach Wa
2. Beach Beer – a blonde ale at 4.7% ABV also from North Jetty
3. Koalsch – a Kolsch style beer at 6.2% ABV from Explorer Brewing in Kelso Wa
4. Point-to-Point – a Japanese Lager from Ghost Runners brewing here in Vancouver
5. Parachute Pivo – a Czech style Pilsner at 4.7% ABV from Victor 23 in Vancouver
6. Baja – a pepper beer from Explorer Brewing
7. Noche Select – a Mexican Dark lager from Ghost Runners at 4.9% ABV
Now on to the projects. First up is the Fritz Flop puzzle. The pans for this puzzle are from our good friend LBD. Pottz has often joked that he will never make a puzzle so this seemed like an obvious choice!
The puzzle pieces are fir and the box is walnut.
The puzzle cubes are just under an inch on a side. The box is made from 3/16” pieces with rabbet joinery. I used General Finished wipe on semi-gloss and buffed with Renaissance Wax.
I stayed with the theme of Craftisian based projects for the next project. The puzzle is a reminder of pottz friendship with LBD and the coaster is a reminder of the Beetle Woodie Ute project I am tackling.
I cut a slice off my logo blank at about ½” thick. I then set the coaster up in my CNC and cut a cork recess.
I used some creative work to get the piece clamped down to the table.
Then I let the CNC go to work.
The coaster has a coat of General Finishes but no wax. Slippery coasters are not very useful.
Finally, I added in a grill scraper. These are made in batches from time to time. I take a chance including this since everyone has their own way of cleaning a grill. They are easy to make and worth the chance that it will be used.
I use some left-over cedar tongue & groove siding. Cedar is a good choice as the soft wood wears away easily and wraps around the grill rods. I spend a little time locating the blanks so they miss the larger knots. The shapes are cut on the band saw and sand smooth. The disc sander gives a good edge to the blade and a little router work for the edges.
This turned out to be a good swap – even though I was pressed for time!
steve did a fantastic job with everything. not being a big beer drinker there arnt a lot i like but he managed to pick a winning lineup. as he said ive had fun teasing the duck about his puzzles and what do i get, a ducks puzzle ! well the wife snagged that right away so i havn't even messed with it yet. the coaster is gonna be something that will always remind me of steves ute project. and last is the scraper which i will use. all in all this was a fantastic swap. thanks again steve.

For the write up.. and that VW is neat... for the delay in posting as I prepared a rebuke what seems like a long time ago... many casko-vinos ago.
Pottz commented about what seems like 3 years ago this puzzle is made from plans from the little black duck ! oh man duckie is gonna love this because i always joke about his puzzle fetish ! when my wife saw this she confiscated it right away as hers !
You're welcome W.
WOW, great take on the puzzle… OH to be a
fly on the wall when the package was opened.
Did you download my instructions or make up your own and include it with the puzzle?
Couldn't wait till you posted it as a project rather than a comment in the swap.
I have just made another one that has a high degree of difficulty yet easy to make out of solids… hell we could start a trend here.
Now that you have Pottzy’s address, any chance of telling me so I can post him a box full of puzzles… the look on his face would more than compensate for the exorbitant international shipping cost.
Pottzy, I might be able to help you win some SWMBO brownie points… you have a choice of over 120+ puzzle patterns
that you can unleash your frustration on.
