Lathe Collet Chuck Box.

Boys and Girls,

OMG, I nearly had to call upon my life saver  when I found out I haven’t posted it, or at least I couldn’t find it, and after copious searches I still couldn’t… until now that I’ll have posted it, I don’t need it and can instead, complacently suck on an alternative,
I had, what turned out to be, a very quick perusal of this project posted on LJ  on June 2020, and was totally gobsmacked with the content.

EEK! That's it... full content... everything... nothing more.

While I have no great affinity to making boxes, however, I have megaless love for bloody short narratives, and that fell into the non-political category of efen tiny.
I will not insult myself by repeating, but if you are a masochist, feel free to peruse the LJ link above (↑).

I refuse to repeat my transgressions, so after my mea culpa, mea culpa, mea bloody big maxima culpa, underturd
undeterred, I’ll bore yazall to tears with what may be a prolonged liturgy here.

In preparation, I had a look at my happy snaps of the event and another gobsmacking left me winded.  Bugga all pickies, however, I shall drag it out like I did my love life in my youth.
I was just a tad pissed with the cardboard box my Beall Collet chuck was shipped in and at the time, though a timber replacement was in order.
Dragged out the Incra jig
and made a few sides that eventually morphed into a box,
and a few laser cuts out of 6mm MDF, provided a stable seating for the pieces,
During the finger cutting, I chopped a finger off... ran around like a decapitated chook until I realised the lack of blood and the missing finger was on one of the box's sides.  A shaped piece of wood, PVA glue,

flush cut saw and sanding made it disappear.   Not quite a Petey cutting board rescue,

but this was done years ago before his redemption.

Now that was for the large set, however, this blog started off with the small set that I used the original foam packing from the cardboard box into a customised smaller box,

Now that smaller set came with a set of collete spanners, that were added onto the box as an afterthought,

I’m not one to embellish, however, it seems that I might have strived to impress someone about some contrasting timber. No name comes to mind other, however the walnut embellishment was ego added for no other reason than looks,

Both finished with wipe-on poly.

At the end of the day, the two boxes still managed to get filed away,

Fortunately this collet set came with its own box,
saving me a bucketload of hassles.

Nice storage box, Alex. I'm still using the red plastic one that came with my PSI lathe collets. That one is  pretty good so I don't think I'll need one like yours for a while.............................Bud they are fun to design and build to accomodate all the accessories!!!!!!!

Cheers, Jim ........................ Variety is the spice of life...............Learn something new every day

With all your accessories you really need boxes like that! Keeping/having the shaped foam is a bonus.

That last photo with the metal box, looks like someone swapped out a chuck for something else? Are those knife blanks peeking out on the right?

Gotta say the pimping out with the walnut looks great!
It came out really nice Ducky. I like you box joint skills and you jig. What’s that round brown thing on top of the ducks head. An Aussie  donut?

Thanks guys... the boxes are nearly older than me as can be seen from the foreign pieces of contrasting embellishments on them.  Made in the days when I was a thrillseeker and had time to spare. My recent venture into laser cut MDF boxes for tools is not as pretty, but when secreted in a drawer, their ugliness is hidden from me.

Pottzy, if you fiddle around with dowels, they are a must... I was primarily introduced to them when I was making models (vehicles) and needed a variety of different sized pistons... ideal for drilling dowel centres on the lathe... and other turnings.

As can be seen in the metal boxed set, many are still in their plastic wraps... I've only used a few, but because of their range, they can accomodate both metric and those recalcitrant imperial dowels cheap hardware stores import from China and sell as metric.

I believe the chunk on the ducks head is vegmite....or maybe just similar in taste.

Mike

The project may be in the past but the output is absolutely fantastic.   My collet chuck box is plastic and while it does the job, your design is waaaaaaaaaay better and even a bit space saving.  A great job, Duck.    Thanks for sharing.  Sometimes the projects we did in the past serve as current inspiration.

Moke. Hahah! When I first moved to Ca. I dated an Australian girl. She would eat a vegemite sandwich for breakfast every morning. She gave me a vegemite sandwich. (Sounds like a song). But it’s true. I never touched it again with a 10 foot pole. I guess it’s something Aussie parents make you eat when you miss behave. She was a naughty little girl.😗

James McIntyre

Vegemite is banned in prisons here in Victoria... apparently inmates use it to make moonshine because of the yeast content... that may have something to do with at least my affinity to it.

It can also aid in your part time job,

In light of that, I half expect The Donald to make that a compulsory item of the Yankee diet.

When you need them, you'll love them... and I can guarantee that if you didn't part with the shekels, you'll never be able to point to your bank account and say there's those shekels still there that the duck didn't con me into.

Often the brand I tout may not be the most economical, but it's the item I'm spruiking... it's like when I say Rotex and idiots go and buy Bosch... don't blame the CEO of Bosch for bad decisions.
