A few small Christmas ornaments

I tinkered with wood carving this year and made a few little things that were used to decorate our tree. There are more than these but I don't have photos. Just a few things to share...
Most are made with basswood or scraps of walnut & maple. I experimented with epoxy for a finish but did not have good luck. These are painted with craft acrylic paint from Hobby Lobby and sealed with craft sealer. The one thing I did learn about the painting was to seal the wood before I painted to prevent bleed. I started with BLO which worked but I think I will seal differently next time. The paint should be thinned also. In this case I simply used water. More practice needed.
My carving tools are Flexcut. I have had really good luck with those knives. I tried Beavercraft but was dissappointed in the edge quality so I returned them. I only have a few so do your homework before you buy & don't take only my experience to decide. I am still learning.

Also I had a difficult time scroll sawing pine. It may have had too much moisture or resin because it really clogged the saw teeth.

Those are great.   Like the cowboy!

Also a fan of your cowboy, lots of personality!
I like it all, but the cowboy and the snow man really stand out.

nice work on those. i love that style of carving. there was a guy on the other forum that did his that style. he was very good. i cant remember his name though.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Well done!  I use shellac as a sealer.
Nice! Looks like fun.
Great work! Love the snowman!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Those are very cool Sparky, I've thought about trying to carve, but never bought the tools. It's apparent you have the talent, can't wait to see what you can do when you've had more time carving.👍🏻
