The Mike Marvel Milescraft Box

Some may remember Mike Marvel from LJs he made a brilliant wooden briefcase.
Since passed away (not his real Name either) but I needed to recognise his great work by dedicating my Milecraft Box in his name  at the time. Its a biggie, not something you could tuck under your arm easily.

Does anybody remember him ... its over 15 years now. AKA Cabinetman.

I have been threatening to contribute to all the box posts appearing lately so here it is !

Dimensions:-
800 mm x 480 mm x 240mm
Construction
The wood frame is 19mm pine with 10 mm ply top and bottom
Finger jointed corners
Cut open at 150 mm from the bottom leaving 90 mm top
Big ass hinges and a (LBD lookalike) handle to support its bulk
Finish:-
The edges top and bottom are router round over edges, from memory its just finished with sanding sealer.
Made back in circa 2011
Contains all my Milescraft gear, ( now almost a dinosaur with the advent of CNC and laser Machines)
Contents:-
From the top

The lid contains the router bases and the Milescraft design and inlay  gear

The Base contains all my Milescraft sign making gear, clamps guides and extension rails including my custom guides for making crosses..

Both sizes of letter templates 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 " Horizontal and vertical housed in easy to find letters and numbers

Along with quite a few redundant supplies in case I manage to destroy some letters.

Also the Lid holds the original box instructions  and operators guides to reproduce patters  (like the one on the lid)

In the two cases are all the accessories .

It doesn't get a lot of use these days, along with my 3D router carver but its a tool I enjoyed at the time and have the knowledge its the go to kit to use  up to if I ever buy a laser and CNC in the future, that being also  before I completely lose interest in woodworking.
Thanks for looking I hope its of some use or knowledge to all.

Regards Rob

'bout time you got off your rrrs and posted more of you projects... there is always something us laymen ducks can get inspiration from... and I'm not trying to piss in your pocket (or lay eggs, man)... though it might be warm in winter, even in Queensland.

Unfortunately, I don't remember Mike, even if I was sober as I only date back to 2016, which my calculator informs me is just a tad (+/-) 10 years ago... however, I have been known to wear my sexy Marvel gear,

to take the sparkle of my boots.

Talk about sexy... was surprised to see some English letters,

was half expecting a box full of French ones.

Don't sell yourself short, that handle is something to get a grip with... and I've been informed, you are worth long.... hmm!

Bit out of the other left field,

where the hell is Antman?

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Nice box! There's a lot of plunder right there, too!

The Other Steven

Box full of good stuff.   Works!

You gotta get yourself, and only need , 1 laser... or CNC is you have shares in double sided tape.

Shekels??? Maybe charge Antman for looking after his "sheep/cattle station"....  Or #1 son for his eBike support... sound mean but he'll eventually inherit it... win/win!

Or at least some Alphabet posts, though your sets seems to cover the XXX spelling.

 800 mm x 480 mm x 240mm
Hell. that's nearly the size of Pottzy's ego!

OK  a bit of info on AntMan
As you are aware in 2020 the COVID scare almost crippled the world.
In particular is halted international and domestic travel to an extent that people became "Caged Up" in their own homes and could not travel like they were accustomed.
This also effectively crippled just about every business which was  connected to travel or hospitality, they either closed up temporarily or went out of business completely never to return.
ANTMAN worked for Cathay Pacific as a Pilot flying the legendary Boeing 747 Aircraft.

You would think a pilot was a job that was very secure and safe, however it was not to be so.
Cathay Pacific was grounded and all of workers suspended. Subsequently Cathay Pacific began hemorrhaging Millions of HK dollars and immediately shut down Dragon Airlines (the budget version of Cathay Pacific) in an attempt to tread water, the shedding of staff then continued and eventually the most senior staff faced the loss of their jobs through no fault of their own.
Anthony decided to resign and return to Australia having been forced to sell real estate in Honk Kong at a loss to fund his existence as everybody was fleeing.
As time went on the world began to recover and Anthony returned to Flying, this time  with Atlas Air a freight company using 747 and from what he said most of the cargo was Amazon products. The route I believe was Alaska based flying in and out as effectively its a half way point between the USA and ASIA. that being so you can see the reason why the USA bought Alaska from Russia!

Anyway eventually Cathay Pacific hired him back and there he is today., again living in Hong Kong as a condition of employment, sadly though a lot of the previous conditions of service  he had been accustomed to had been removed or reduced making dropping back home of a weekend out of the question.
The farm has been managed by Cheryl and casual workers while he is away.

A huge chunk of the grass house paddock has been plowed up and turned into Market gardens for Cheryl.

However as it watered by hand using a garden hose this turned into a real chore
So in October 2025 we installed a permanent irrigation system to do the job by just operating a valve on the areas needing water.
there are nine sprinkler heads all capable of being controlled by individual head valves or by row feeds to the three locations you see on the ground next to the main filter and controls.

Also in September 2025 they also slaughtered one of the stock for a meat supply, however I was not there at the time.
But I was informed no fingers were missing as a result

Your gunna need a bigger freezer!

That should satisfy the curiosity of those interested in just what he is up to.
I don't visit anywhere near as often as I used to nor does as much woodworking  get conducted as frequently.
No doubt when retirement approaches you will see more activity and interesting "stuff"

thanks for the update. glad to hear he's doing better. i had the opportunity to meet him once when he was on a layover here but the timing was bad as was the traffic at rush hour downtown L.A. ! so it never happened and he never got back here.
