my friend has a water hose cart he really loves and the handle broke but its obsolete so he asked if i could make one from wood ? i said sure no problem. so in jim jakosh fashion, here it is. made from ipe to stand up to weather. stainless steel screwed and glued. finished with Ipe oil, although he may want to paint it ? for the square cut out i used my mortising machine which seen hasn't action since my G&G table several years ago. so the hose reel will live on.

You mean you expect him to paint it... what kind of a friend are you?

Does that grip spin? Whats your "spinner" technique?... and don't use the excuse the old one didn't...

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

the old one didn't ! 😏

The level of "friendship" deepens.

Looks workable to me!

Great improvement.  That handle will outlive the reel.  😁
That'll work.

Nice job on the handle, Pottz. We have one in the back yard, out of the sun. The one in the front has a spinning handle, though.

A new one the handle will probably break even sooner. At least one will out last everything.
Nice recreation Pottz, this will work fine,  no spinning handle is needed - just a loose grip.
thanks kids. yeah the original didn't spin and my friend said, it doesn't need to !

Ya know, you do pretty damn good. Especially for a grownup.

Kinda a sad statement about me that I was well into seven decades in before it dawned on my much, or most, of what others do with metal can be done by manipulating wood.
🤣 well thank you !

That took some time with the shaping of ipe!

I probably would have fished through my collection of bicycle parts and mated up an old crank arm and pedal.
thanks. yeah ipe is always fun to work with. but it will survive the best outside.
