Shaving Station

On Facebook, I saw one of those silly, "Do you know what this is?" posts of a simple Old Spice Shaving Mug... I bought and used one of those in the early 1980's, used it until the early 2000's, when the bristles all fell out of my brush! Lol
At that time, I searched the local pharmacys for a new brush, but they only offered kits (mug, soap, brush)... I didn't want to get the whole kit, already having a mug, ended up buying canned shaving cream instead...
As silly as the Facebook post was, it reminded me how much I enjoyed the old experience of using a brush and mug! A quick search on Amazon showed numerous Brushes available, so one was purchased... The reason the old brush ultimately failed was because, after shaving, the brush would be set in the mug and after the soap dries, the brush sticks to it! So I made this little station to hold the brush above and free of the mug...

Added a slot to hold the Razor too (another antique! Dad bought it for my Birthday in 1971!!)
Anyway, a simple and quick project that can either be placed on top of our medicine cabinet or maybe screwed to the wall in the bathroom?? Still haven't decided that one yet...

cool project bud but i cant get that warm fuzzy feeling because ive been an electric shaver guy since the first whiskers ! well done my friend !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Function able holder for all.    Electric razor user here, fewer cuts and nicks.
What function does the awl preform?

Ron

Nice kit! I've been shaving for 60 years, since age 13. Tired of it; only shave twice a week. Trak or Mach, something or the other.

The Other Steven

Neat project!

What finish did you use as I assume this will have some contact with water?
Pottz: Tried an Electric once, didn't like it at all! It felt like it was pulling the hair out rather than cutting it
Ron: The Awl just happened to be in the Work Area, it serves no purpose to the finished project...
Dark Lightning: I started at 13 as well, but have never been an everyday shaver... After the Radiation for my throat a few years ago, my beard doesn't grow half as heavy! Once a week is plenty now
BB1: I used up what I had left of some rattle-can Poly... The two small shelves just slide in and can be replaced if anything radical happens (replace with plastic maybe?)
George West: Thank You Sir!

Nicely done. A great way to store and display that stuff at the same time!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thank You Ryan! It was placed on the Medicine Cabinet this morning, waiting to be useful...

Neat job l'c'....

..... At that time, I searched the local pharmacys for a new brush,....

FAIW, in case you didn't know, you can get shaver/brush kits,

from most pen suppliers.... eg. PSI... and before Moke throws a wobbly and calls me bro' due to the acrylic, even this donkey realises it will fare better under water than wood.

Don't let the beard fool ya,

I use it to shave my legs.... and the red hides the nicks.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Thanks Dutchy!
LBD: I'm a little surprised at how few of the Woodworkers here don't use older style Razors, opting for electric or disposable? I had a very heavy beard in my Salad Days, and as I said, Electrics never 'cut it' for me... Disposables lost their edge before a single shave was achieved the few times they were tried... What used to be called a "double-edge safety razor" is what I've always used...

They are cheap to use! I can get 15 to 25+ shaves from a single blade... They are also easy on the skin and provide a top-notch shave...
A far cry from what my Grandfather used to use! He used a straight razor until he found and purchased this scary device...

It is a Rolls Razor, designed by none other than the Rolls Royce Company... Both sides of the case open so the blade can either be drawn over the Stone or slapped against the Strop...
When the blade is satisfactorily sharp, it is attached to the handle...

I used this to shave exactly once, just to be able to say I had... It is not for the squeamish! (Nor is it for me! Lol)
