Last Box of 2025

A Box that was begun on November 30th and completed Yesterday...
Made in the usual fashion using Tiger Wood for the sides, Ash for the top and bottom panels, Mahogany hardware, Chestnut brackets to hold the Tray, Red Oak for the tray sides and Old-growth Pine for the Tray bottom...
It is a little bigger than my usual efforts, coming in at 10 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 5"...
Finish is 'Warm Gloss' wipe-on Polyurethane, with a final coat of clear furniture polish...
Over the Years, I've found that some Projects WANT to be made... while others DO NOT! This Box was of the former variety and was a Joy to create...
Thanks for your Time, Comments are always Welcome!
And Best Wishes to All for a Very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years from Debbie and I!

Really like the contrasting wood types. Could you comment more on the hinge you made? Looks great!
Thank You Barb... The Hinges are just another exercise in two-directional Scroll Saw cutting... They start, like all hinges, with two different sized hinge pin holes, one press-fit, the other slip-fit...

The side profiles are drawn in the desired configuration (the middle hole was a mis-fire and will not be used)
Then the top profiles were drawn...

Here too, I made some poor lay-out, but the proof is in the cutting, not the drawing!

The side cuts are fierce, through 1 3/4" of Mahogany, but these went smoothly with a new blade...
Top cuts were next...

Lastly the Parting cuts and Hinges fall out the bottom...

It always reminds me of doing your best lay-out, cutting as well as you're able, and then saving the "Waste" Piece that falls out at the End!

Also a fan of those stylish hinges, thanks for the details on those!

Box looks great with the wood combo and the tray really adds to the utility!
Nicely done!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thank You all Very Much!

nice box work. it's already been said but ill say it too, love those hinges !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice work. From the front I really love this box, the finger joints, and especially the populated interior. While I also really like the wooden hinges. i don't think they are a good marriage here. Instead I think the box is better with something metal to offset the wood.

Never thought I would say, no it's too much wood.
Sorry you didn't like the Hinges George!
I was a little concerned about the over-all 'darkness' of the Tiger Wood and Mahogany and the Light Tent that I use for Photographing these Boxes made them both even darker! The best way to photograph a a Box like this one would be outside in the Sun or in some diffused Sunlight...
Anyway, here's another I took just now with direct light that shows more accurately the wood colors...

It's a tough one to take pictures of!
I gave up on metal hinges over 20 Years ago and won't be using them anytime soon... Again, Sorry
